Hanne Hukkelberg - Little things
Folk tranquility, pop easiness, jazz swing. But not a great mix, just a few bit of each. Less is more, simplicity is complex. That’s how could be described the musical gems of Hanne Hukkelberg’s Little Things. Listening to Cast Anchor, Jaga Jazzist poped up in my mind. And then her voice made this thought fade away quickly. No comparisons came this time, Hanne rapidly set up her really own universe. If I really had to tag her, I’d say an acoustic múm playing with Jaga Jazzist for the music, a more open and vibrant Stina Nordenstam for the voice, sometimes not so far from Anja Garbarek or even Cat Power. One thing I like is that you can never be sure what instrument (or object) is being played at the moment, or what the drummer is using. The number of instrument featuring on this album is as great as the number of guests: Jaga Jazzist - Ah! I knew it! -, Kaada, Shining (guess what: band formed by some Jaga Jazzist members…), Exploding Plastix, … OK, enough said: that album is good and fun.
The album Little Things is released everywhere June 14, the EP Cast Anchor is already available, both on The Leaf label.
