A Good Grammofon Beats All
2005.07.06
Some people claimed on Noisedfisk forum that nothing is really happening in the Scandinavian music scene. Wrong! I bet they have listened through all the records by Sigur Rós, múm and Björk, but believe me: true finds come from Norway’s most bewildering label, Rune Grammofon.
For the friends of chaotic, progressive and highly innovative jazz / avant rock Rune Grammofon released some time ago Shining’s wonderful and adventurous “In The Kingdom Of Kitsch You Will Be A Monster”. As it seems to be a standard in Norwegian young groups, two of Shining’s members have also played with Jaga Jazzist.
In the case you have listened your Sigur Rós records through while waiting for their new record (expected to be released in autumn), give a try to Arve Henriksen’s “Chiaroscuro”. If the beauty of Agætis byrjun got you hooked, this will blow the air out of your lungs!
To make it even more appealing, all the releases come in dikipak format with cover art designed by Kim Hiorthí¸y. Those bastards make me want to get rid of all of my money!
At least a Supersilent live dvd is coming soon. It’s all in black and white, captured to 16 mm film and directed by – who else – K. Hiorthí¸y. Also something very special is planned for their 50th release.

I was wondering when you will get to look into this label, some people cliam for a while now that it’s one of the exciting things happening around the wolrd in the experimental electronica. Nice post.
But, what I am sure you wanted to say and forgot is that a short while ago Rune Grammofon started to market their stuff through Posteverthing.com, Leaf’s indie online store. So not it’s easier for everyone to get at least some of their albums.
