Audrey

It should remain secret and I do hope it will remain between you and me. But well, I hardly find inspiration anymore to write about those great bands I keep listening to all the time. Probably because I’ve got too many things on my mind at the moment. Sometimes, I feel kind of overwhelmed by the number of bands I discover everyday. Take Audrey. I discovered them through the internet, as usual, downloaded one of their tracks, “Box and Fights”, and I literally fell in love with the song. I thought it wouldn’t last for long, I thought I would soon find another great nordic band to fall in love with, I thought I would simply forget about them. I was wrong.
Don’t expect anyone called “Audrey” in this band, despite their name. Audrey consists of Victoria, Anna, Rebecca and Emelie. They currently live in Gothenburg and the band was formed in Henån, Sweden back in 2001. That’s all you know about them if you visit their website. Fortunately, I found a nice article about the band on the Stereo Test Kit Records site:
“… Moving forward a year or so, Audrey began to develop their sound. The embryo of their dark, suggestive pop took its first form in a run-down music house in the archipelago of Gothenburg. “It was really the worst place, the building was about to be demolished as we rehearsed there. The toilet was broken, the pipes had frozen and there were mice running around on the floor”, says guitarist Victoria Skoglund.” Straightforward, conventional narrative is replaced by abstract meanings which strengthen the melodies. “I like it when the lyrics can mean different things, that we give clues to our audience. Sometimes we can write quite incoherent things, but we are looking for a feeling in the music”, says Victoria.
There is something totally addictive in “Box and Fights”. Is it the spoken words, this melancolic and sweet voice, those haunting melodies, the disturbing atmospheres crafted by the cello? I don’t know but they sound fantastic. And the only thing we have to do right now is to wait for the debut album, which is supposed to be released next fall. Or order their first EP on It’s a Trap or, again, Stereo Test Kit Records
Visit their website and download “Box and Fights” as soon as possible!
