5ta Herdeildin vs. Björk
5ta Herdeildin, whose names translates as “The Fifth Column”, is an Icelandic band which apparently has been making a name for themselves in Russia. Their music might be described as a sort of folk-based alt-country punk if I’m not misquoting Gísli the frontman of the band, which I probably am. They’ve recently done a tounge-in-cheek version of the Björk song “Army of me” which is quite enjoyable to listen to. Too bad it wasn’t included on the Army of me remix album which Björk released and neither will it see light of day on the forthcoming 5th Column album. However a video of the song can be viewed on their website, embedded into the web page a little way down. In case you have trouble with embedded video I took the liberty of copying the file here so it can be downloaded seperately.
I had no idea what a Fifth Column was until starting this post, and if interested this page should explain that sufficiently.
Someone asked me the other day wether it was true that every musician in Iceland was in many bands. I didn’t give this much thought and said no. Then again if you look closely you will find 5ta Herdeildin’s bass player in the punk band Dys, (famous for songs like “I won’t be fucked in the ass anymore”) and the jolly pop band Hraun (with songs like “Little kitten”), and the guitarist, Gestur, is also in Númer Núll.
