Blue Foundation released a new single, the first one in over 2 years: Enemy. Sounds different… The full song is available on the band’s myspace page, with another track (Watch You Sleeping) from their new album, Life Of A ghost, set to be released on September 24.

OK, this is kind of a shameless plug… Angryape offers a free download from Prince Valium’s latest album Andlaus: Crying Hearts. My better half wrote the lyrics and sings.

Ungdomshuset, in Copenhagen, was an artists and activists squat since the 80s. In March of this year, the municipality decided to give it an end, evicted the occupants and destroyed the building.

Users and supporters have since protested, sometimes violently. At some point a support concert was organized, Blue Foundation participated, playing an unreleased song that I can’t get out of my head: Voices. The video is neat, too.

Update: This song is part of a mini-album called Dead People’s Choice.

We don’t have much about Faroese and that’s a shame, because they have such a high cool people ratio over their population. So there…

Teitur is one of them. He has already released two albums, won a few music awards, opened for folk stars, enough to give this 30 year old’s name all its meaning (teitur means happy in Old Norse).

Teitur decided, for his third album, to drop big major (Universal), big recording studios, … and to sing in his native language. The interesting result is Káta hornið, released in Scandinavia only by the local label Tutl.

This person is also the organizer of the free electronic music festival Sähköjänis, held in Finland annually at the late summer. Tons of indie music, all for absolutely free! So make sure to pay a visit if you happen to be around at the time! More information likely to come.

In the song he says that we speak fondly of this Ingólfur in speeches, but deep down inside we wish that his ship had sunk on the way here; meaning that he did us no favour when settling this miserably windy rock in the middle of nowhere.

Megas has since had a colorful and no less controversial career in music, he’s been branded a drug-addict and a pervert, but is still releasing records, that I, for one, enjoy mightily. And despite this controversy he is generally regarded as a master songwriter and an admirable poet.

Enter Magga Stína who’s also a highly talented musician, who first sprang onto the stage in around 1989 with her band Risaeðlan. The band was signed to the Sugarcubes’ Bad Taste label and released a few poptastic and fun albums, chock full of unusual popsongs laden with violins, saxophones and bongos. A few weeks ago she released an album which is a tribute to Megas, containing eleven of his songs sung by her, some of them previously unreleased. And one of them is the controversial song about Iceland’s first settler, and here I offer you both versions of this beautiful song, which I think may be enjoyable to listen to though you may not understand the lyrics. And tell me who you think is a better singer! :o)
